Description :
The Garden of World Medicine show the diversity of plants which have been used medicinally. In many countries imported (« exotic ») plants introduced by settlers are used and sometimes outnumber the local plants used medicinally.
Botanic gardens have played and important role in dispersing medicinal plants around the world for the benefit of humankind.
In the days of the Society of Apothecaries the Chelsea Physic Garden was a place which received new plants and promoted their study.
Today, Glaxo Group Research screens the plants throughout the garden for potential new drugs, while we hope to display to the public the history and importance of plants in medicines worldwide.
